About Me

A bearded man from Latvia in New Zealand.

In 2014 I went on a little bicycle trip that led me to New Zealand. I had no plan to stay and no plan to go back. So it happened that since 2016 I have been living in Christchurch.
Have spent the first covid year (2020) back in Europe with my kiwi partner and now returned to NZ.

I like to challenge myself and find my limits.
I try to make decisions about things that life offers only after I've tried them, so I'm always open to try out something new and interesting.
I don't like stereotypes and prejudice and try hard not to give in to them, but as we all know, they are sometimes deep engrained in ourselves.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have hosted only a couple of travelers in Latvia before going on the big adventure of my own. Only while travelling and couchsurfing A LOT, I really learned to appreciate the hospitality and never taking things for granted. By staying with locals, we saw so many interesting things, that we would not have otherwise, and experienced every culture more personally. I'd love to host more people in the future because couchsurfing around the world has been one of my highlights on the world trip.
Since then I've been a "hosting assistant" to my partner in New Zealand and we have hosted a lot of awesome travellers there. For some more references from guests, you can look up her profile https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/ambertron

Interests

I usually get interested about a whole lot of things but then get bored and abandon them.
Geocaching is the one hobby that has held my interest for quite some time now (14 years!).
Lately gotten into indoor bouldering a bit but had an unfortunate injury in the past so a bit more reserved now.

I'm also interested in all things technology, computers and such, can be a bit of a geek.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite movies: | Free Solo | Gravity | Inside Man | Limitless | Man on Wire | Mr. Nobody | 127 Hours | Superbad | The Departed | The Secret Life of Walter Mitty | Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri |
I'm always up for seeing a good movie, no matter what genre.
Favorite series: | For All Mankind | Severance | Bojack Horseman | Chernobyl | Supernatural | The Haunting of Hill House | Twin Peaks |

Favorite bands: | Static-X | Asking Alexandria | Caliban | Five Finger Death Punch | Dzelzs Vilks | Florence + the Machine | Rammstein | Snow Patrol | The Black Keys | The Sounds | Pērkons | Zāle | Nova Koma | Hospitāļu iela. Every German trancecore band, they are just epic!

I read a lot of books when I was younger, now I'm somehow lazy in this department. I like Kurt Vonnegut's works and popular science books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Reached the furthest inhabited place from my home - Pitt Island in New Zealand! I was on the road for 20 months together with two of my good friends. (Well, not literally on the road all the time - working, couchsurfing, resting as well.)

Whether it was starting an adventure, cycling over half a world; or canyoning in Strubklamm, Austria; or climbing mountains in NZ; or to the top of abandoned 200m high radio tower in Latvia; or other things; the one truly amazing thing I've seen is the world itself. And being one of the billions of parts that compose it, yet being only one and unique myself is the most amazing thing, I've done.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always keen to help people out with computer-related questions or to help with dealing with various gadgets.
I also have experience in DSLR photography.
Unexperienced electrician :D
